Sipokni
Elderly, Old
The Chickasaw Nation and the Chickasaw people have been working on sharing and revitalizing our language for a long time. Before the internet was such a central resource, there were many language learning resources that were created by the Nation and our elders to help preserve and teach the language. These older resources have now fallen out of use or been forgotten in the digital age with the newer, centralized resources the Nation presents, especially as many of these were only created and distributed locally. I want to preserve these older resources and records for both their educational use and for their cultural importance.
Often the people participating in these initiatives were Chickasaw elders who were the only fluent speakers. These older resources capture not only the language but the language as it was spoken by the past generation of fluent Chickasaws - and the voices and memories of our elders.
