Welcome!

Welcome to an attempt at the first fully free and online accessible place to learn Chikashshanompa, the Chickasaw language. There are many places you can learn it, but this will pull together more complex ideas of grammar and sentence construction from other sources (like the Rosetta Stone, the Analytical Dictionary, and the Let's Speak Chickasaw book, as well as Sherrie Begay's proposed Chickasaw Uniskript) that are usually not accessible on an open web page. It will also be formatted like other common language textbooks (in particular the Bien Dit! series for learning French) while having every section of the textbook freely accessible at all times.

This project is not done in association with the Chickasaw Nation's tribal government or anyone working for the tribal government, unless otherwise stated.

Let's go!

If you want to get started learning Chikashshanompa, you can check the Directory for an idea of what this site has to offer, or you can dive right in to Kashapa Chaffa - Section One!

This site's teaching style is inspired by the Bien Dit! textbooks for learning beginning and intermediate French. Sections are themed around situations, beginning at how to introduce yourself to someone and moving on to things like grocery shopping, talking about your family tree, and using the internet! There will be vocabulary sentences and charts, grammar lessons, and practice exercises. These exercises will be harder without someone to practice with, especially aloud, but I will do my best to make them usable not just by groups but by individual learners.
